I am friends with a famous person! (Alternately: A really great Bible Study)

"He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm" Proverbs 13:20

Friends, let me tell you how seriously blessed I am! I have the great privilege of learning from a truly truly wise woman on a regular basis. Seriously, Laura Krokos is one amazing woman! I could probably tell you 8,000 stories about her kindness, generosity, boldness, bravery, heart for the lost, compassion, or how stinkin funny she is, but it would take me years.

But I really want to tell you all about one of the best things about her! Her wisdom.

Wisdom isn't the same as knowledge (knowing the right thing). It's knowing the right thing, and how to use and apply it.

If you sat down with Laura for any length of time you might hear her say that she has an awful memory. But Laura knows more scripture than anyone I've ever met. She has whole books memorized and is constantly memorizing new verses. But she doesn't just keep them up in her head, she uses them! She encourages and teaches others with them.

Okay and another thing, Laura is the queen of tools and diagrams. I literally have tons of diagrams, pictures, and explanations of things from discipleship appointments with Laura over the years. She has this huge bank of knowledge of how to explain everything from living a Spirit-filled life to how to be most effective accomplishing the task that God has given us. She has tools on everything! Seriously.

But what makes it so amazing is that Laura has the wisdom to use the right tool at the right time.

I probably (most likely) would not be who I am or where I am without the guidance, love, and support of Laura.

Do you want to know one of the very coolest things about Laura?

Seriously! How cool is that? One of my dearest friends is a published author! It's like I'm friends with a famous person! Hahaha :)

But really, the best part about this? It means that you can benefit from all her amazing wisdom too! Laura wrote one of my favorite Bible studies called Beholding Him Becoming Missional.

Every time I pull it out, I feel like I'm sitting down and having coffee with Laura. It's a "come along and let's do life together" Bible study which makes it so welcoming. If you like Beth Moore (I love her and sort of wish she was my mom) then you'll love this study too. It's a 12 week study that has different challenges and stories each day. I know a bunch of womens small groups have gone through it and I'm hoping to go through it with some awesome girls next semester! :)

As Laura walks through First Samuel, you get to see and understand the text, (Laura was one of the first people that demystified the Old Testament for me!) and then see how it applies to your life.

It's rare that a study combines learning and application so well.

But I think my very favorite part of the study is all the cool stories that Laura tells. Stories of God's power and faithfulness. You can sneak peak at one of my favorites on her blog here.

I think one of the coolest things about living right now is we have the ability to learn from wise people when we're nowhere near them. We have blogs and the internet, books and e-readers, sermons, podcasts, etc. It is truly amazing! Which means that YOU can walk alongside Laura too!

You can have the privilege, just as I have had, to learn from such a wise woman of God! You can read her blog Beholding Glory and buy her Bible study Beholding Him, Becoming Missional: Awakening to the mission through the study of First Samuel here or here.

Remember how I was saying how generous Laura is? All the proceeds she gets from the book (100%!) go to organizations that rescue women from sex trafficking. Laura and I saw the horrors first hand in Cambodia.  Laura cares more about honoring God, and having people know Him and His glory, than getting money from the sale. That is seriously impressive to me.

Anyways, I probably don't need to tell you again how much I love Laura but I will. She really is one of the most amazing people I know. I hope that you all will see that too through the incredible Bible study she wrote.

Do you guys have someone like Laura in your life? What's your favorite Bible study?

All my love,

PS I'm linking up with these awesome women!

We Are THAT Family, Walk with HimKelly's Korner

  1. Great job! You've sold me on the book. I follow Laura's blog but it was you, telling about your experience knowing her that has sold it to me. It is like that with sharing Jesus. One can read all we want but when they see how He has changed people's lives, they are sold on him and decide to give him a chance!

  2. What a privilege to know Laura. Thank God for friendships, too.

  3. This is so awesome. She seems like an amazing woman of God and a great friend! I, too, am sold on the book. And how cool that she is donating all the proceeds! Wow, not many people would do that. That is amazing.

Stopping in from Kelly's Korner. Thank you for sharing and opening me up to this new devotional!
