Promise Fulfill-er

Advent Reading Today: Matthew 1, Genesis 3:15

A commentary that I was reading today mentioned that the Old Testament is a book of Promises and the New Testament is a book of the Fulfillment of the Promises. This doesn't mean that there aren't promises in the New Testament, but rather that Jesus is the fulfillment of the multitudes of promises given over the course of history.

For years and years the nation of Israel had to wait and hope for God's promises to come true. All they had was trusting in the character of God to keep the promises that he had made.

Just minutes after the fall of man in Eden, God promises a Redeemer to come. He makes the same promise to Abraham and again to David. Over and over again in the Old Testament we see God's promises of Redemption.

Waiting.

Waiting.

Waiting.

For thousands of years, waiting on God to fulfill His promise. Trusting, hoping, praying that he will come.

And Hallelujah! Here come's Jesus!

Just as promised. From the line of Abraham and David.

Immanuel- God with us.

Finally, Israel is delighting in the fulfillment of God's promises. God is faithful.

Thousands of years after God promises a Redeemer to Adam and Eve - He is born.

Today in my journey of Discovering Advent, I'm rejoicing in the character of God as a Promise Fulfill-er. I'm taking time to thank God for his faithfulness in my life and in the promises He has given and fulfilled. God is the promise maker and the promise keeper.

After days like I've had this week where it seems like awful things just keep happening and I long for Jesus to come back, I know that I can trust in the holy character of God to keep the promises he has made.

I can trust that someday (hopefully someday soon) Jesus will come back.

That he will restore the earth. That he will redeem creation. That he will redeem me.

Oh Lord I praise you for keeping promises. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you that you will come again. You are trustworthy and we know that you will fulfill every promises you have given us. Give us patience by your Spirit.

  1. It's hard to look around at all the misery and not long for Jesus to return. But we know He has a plan and purpose. Hope you can get the young people you spend time with to see this, also. Blessings as you minister to those college kids! I'm visiting from Doorkeeper @reneeannsmith.com.
